BCHD Measure BC was Voter-Rejected: Time for the Board to Resign?

According to Board Member Vanessa Poster in an October 1, 2024 City of Redondo Beach City Council Meeting, “Jane (Diehl), Martha (Koo) and I are running unopposed. This is a mandate from the electorate supporting who we are and what BCHD does for this community.”

Frankly, the electorate had NOTHING TO DO with whether or not Jane, Martha and Vanessa ran unopposed. That was purely the purview of candidates making a reasoned decision NOT to get involved in the catastrophic failure of BCHD finances.

The electorate did, however, vote down the $30M Measure BC. That was a rejection of $9M in allcove building funding and a rejection of $21M in Hospital demolition and site preparation for a 100% private assisted living costs.

Therefore, the electorate affirmatively REJECTED funding for allcove, for seismic demolition, and for the Healthy Living Campus site preparation.

By Vanessa Poster's "rules", that's a loss of confidence in all 5 Board members by the electorate. Therefore, SHOULDN'T THE ENTIRE BOARD RESIGN?

BCHD's future plan is largely allcove for a 91% non-resident service area (LA County SPA8), a private assisted living for 80% non-residents (from a BCHD study) and a PACE facility for 95% non-residents (per the National PACE Association data).

If the Electorate REJECTED BCHD's requested funding, that IS synonymous with REJECTING BCHD's plans that were created and approved by the Board.

The Electorate has rejected the Board's plan and therefore, the Board should resign.
